America’s future

A study by KEMA, a leading energy consulting firm, found that a modest $16 billion in government incentives to smarten the nation’s power grid would catalyze $64 billion worth of projects and create 280,000 direct jobs.

In september 2009, Daimler joined with seven industrial partners WnBW, Linde, OMW, Shell, Total, Vattenfall and the national organization of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology – to establish a net work of fuel cell station across Germany to ready the market for the mass introduction of fuel cell vehicles in 2015

Daimler hydrogen powered buses are already carrying passengers in Hamburg, Amsterdam, London, Berlin, Madrid and other countries as an initiative to replace Gas-powered internal combustion engine with a zero-emission vehicle whose only exhaust is pure water and heat.

Sicily commissioned a study of the region that found if just 6 percent of the rooftop surface area was equipped with solar panels over the next two decades the island could produce a thousand megawatts of electricity — enough to provide the electricity needs for one third of the Sicilian population.

In Spain GMs production facility has installed a 1–megawatt solar plant ojn its roof, which provides enough electricity to power 4600 homes. The initial investment of $78 million will be paid back in less than 10 years, after which electricity generation will be virtually FREE

In the US while employment in the conventional energy sector is declining. In wind industry alone, over 80,000 jobs have been created over the past decade — the same number of jobs that exist in the entire US coal mining industry. Yet wind still only makes up 1.9 percent of the US energy mix, while coal accounts for over 44.5 percent of US energy production.

In 2009 more wind power was installed in the EU than any other power source — making up 38%of the total deployment of new energy. The industry, which currently employs 200,000 workers across the EU and generates 4.8% of the electricity, is forcasted to provide nearly 17% of the electricity for the european market by 2020 and 35% of all the electricity in Europe by 2030 when wind energy will have a workforce of nearly half a million people

Think about this. Are we going to keep letting them lead, simply labeling them in some way? Or will we say hell no American will lead the world, America will show the world who is the best and what we can do. There is nothing we cannot do, nothing we cannot achieve if only we open our eyes, look to the future and understand the facts and dismiss the hype. COAL IS NOT CLEAN AND IS NOT AMERICAS FUTURE

My State Of The Union 2.0

Some will not want to accept what I am going to say but here it is none the less. We are in a new world and it is time that America realizes this, and start making the changes needed. Somewhere along the way we have lost our focus, our self worth and our competitiveness. For too long we have focused on ourselves and our own sense of SELF worth and have not focused on our country. America is a great nation, made so by our pride, our determination and the strive to be #1, We got comfortable, even lazy sitting on our hill thinking we could not fall off. However while our attention has been focused elsewhere we have slipped. Its time for us all to open our eyes, look in the mirror, take notice and focus on what made us strong. We have become divided and our government has preceded to distract us by playing to our own misgivings. They have played on our fears and our anger, focusing it not outwards but towards each other, rather than focusing on our future, a future we can achieve if we have the will to do so.

We built this great country with the industrialized revolution, low skill and low wage manufacturing built this country. It gave us a sense of pride and self worth. America strove to lead the world and we did. We built community, we build wealth and we showed the world what could be accomplished with hard work. However about thirty years ago our egos got the best of us, the world woke up, noticed our achievements and copied them. For the last twenty years we have been losing the very manufacturing that drove our economy. With this loss we have struggled to find our new economic future and something to fill the hole within us all. We long for the good old days, yet we need to focus on a great future. We must start to accept that low tech manufacturing is gone and is unlikely to return. While we will not regain what we have lost, and in truth cannot afford its return. We can work on keeping what we have, making a little effort search out and but MADE IN AMERICA.

In comes the housing market “construction” Our government made changes to direct our economy in a new direction. They made it easier for more of us to buy homes. By lowering the interest rates and the standards for home ownership this market soared. More people were buying homes than ever before, creating the demand, the values of these homes increased and we felt our sense of self worth and our financial security increase, even if artificially. We incorporated consumerism to replace the pride in our jobs and our achievements. We moved away from community pride which left us with no sense of direction. The hole inside of us all grew, we filled this emptiness by purchasing something we couldn’t really afford, when this wore off we went shopping again. The housing bubble only fed our egos and lured us all in. The people bought bigger houses, bigger tvs and fancier cars. Wall street sought out easy money. The states built us fancy new stadiums, signed union contracts that were not sustainable and our federal government spent like there was no tomorrow. Well in comes the bursting of the bubble, the housing market that we all rode so happily burst and it was not a soft landing. Our jobs are gone, our investments, our futures and even worse our pride. Rushing in come the feelings of fear, uncertainty and anger that i spoke of before. The housing market is also unlikely to return. Gone are the days of easy loans and buying everything on credit. However in the short term we can still drive America into the future, with development in the short term we can better prepare our country for future growth and stability. We can put America back to work by rebuilding America. Developing the infrastructure the new American economy will need. Build an advanced power grid, develop the best fiber optic and internet system instead of being in 8th place, rebuild our dams, bridges and build high tech local transportation systems. Not investing in privately owned airports, high speed rail few will actually use, but local commuter and business rail transportation. Give our businesses what they need to expand and put new technologies in place.

So what are we to do? What new economic focus will we build on?, how will we develop America in the future? Well I am no commercial or economic guru but I can assure you it is not to be found by looking backwards. We will not find America’s future by hating or blaming one another. We will not accomplish it on the backs of others by lowering the standing of other Americans or by destroying nature. Removing workers rights, eliminating the minimum wage and child labor laws in attempt to compete with the third world will not make us great. Instead we must find a new focus, we must look to our future and we must build on our strengths. We are still a strong country, we are still the American people that came back after the great depression and we can do it again. Maybe we should increase our focus on the areas we still excel in. We have the top high tech engineering capability, The best biotech sector, we lead in nanotechnology and we can lead the world in new energy and enter a new economy. Lets create new manufacturing, design and implementation industries. Lets refocus our grade schools to be compatible with the 21st century instead of a system from the 50s, lets build on the #1 university system in the world and lets push these sectors in America. Shop classes like metal wood and auto shop were designed for the jobs of the past. We now need to focus on the job skills of today and tomorrow. Shop classes based on electronics, robotics, computers and engineering are the skills needed today. Liberal arts, band classes and home economics need to be replaced with graphic design, marketing and Home finances. You would be amazed how many are graduating school that do not know how to balance a check book, create a simple budget or have even the most basic understanding of interest. We must focus our kids towards becoming engineers, innovators and thinkers, not football players retail managers or cubicle furniture. Time for the service industry America to become the America of what was once considered science fiction. Lets embrace new technology, new energy and new advances in science and medicine. Lets stop arguing with ourselves and trying to lay blame on others. Lets regain and focus our pride as Americans. Build a new future, one where the rest of the world is trying to catch up . Invest in infrastructure, invest on new technological advances and show the world why we are the greatest country on earth.

Fighting back against reptile legislation

Ok People its time to stop whining and time to get serious. The general public and government dont care about facebook photos, they dont care about facebook groups. We need to start our own grass roots programs to combat the legislation across this country. We need to educate the general public and try to reduce some of the misinformation and fear about the animals we love. Its time for the Herp community to come together and not be divided on this. Remember if you dont support the venomous, large constrictor or crocodilian keeper in their time of need, they wont be there when they come after what you keep. Not to mention you dont want precedent in place or give them a working model to take away more.

So what can you do? Well lets start with the easy stuff, more to come as it can be organized.

First join your local herp society, If your state does not have one get a few people together and start one. This is a perfect way for local efforts to fight the rash of state and local laws coming down on us. Later we will talk about coordinating these all nationally.

Create a blog, if you dont have website skills go to or and there they have simple ones you can use. All you have to do it write on them. Post what you feel, post the facts, Share your knowledge. Unlike your facebook or twitter postings which are limited to your friends, Blog posts can be seen and read by anyone on the net. They are indexed by search engines and even picked up and rebroadcast on other blogs and sometimes news sites.

Have video capability and a youtube account? Create video blogs, say your mind argue our point of view, show your snakes in a non scare way. Educate people that do not know about snakes

STOP SHARING AND POSTING BAD PRESS. I cant emphasize this enough. The media and asshole planet do not care if the attention they get is good or bad. All they care about is numbers. The more people, attention, visitors, shares and likes they get the better. If we keep boosting their numbers and the attention they get they will only write more of them. It increases the traffic their advertisers get and as that is where their funding comes from that is ALL THEY CARE ABOUT. If you want to repost the story then do so and credit the source. But DO NOT LINK TO THEM. Its simple The more links a site has pointing to them the higher they rank on the search engines.

No on FWS Python Rule; BAD for American Small Business & Families Facing Economic Hardship.

This is the final push in the BIG FIGHT to stop the Boa and Python BAN! This BIG FIGHT has been 4 years in the making (since 2008) … Help USARK put the Python Ban to rest in 2012! Please participate and help the Reptile Nation overcome the most devistating attack the Herp Community has ever faced!! Please read and follow the instructions to ensure your voice is heard by President Obama, the US Congress and the US Senate.

US Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) has a proposed rule being considered by the White House Office of Management & Budget (OMB). This is the final stage of the rule making process. This rule, if enacted, would ban the import and interstate transport of nine constricting snakes; Burmese python, Northern & Southern African pythons, Reticulated python, all four Anacondas, and Boa constrictor. This rule has been called the “Constrictor Rule”. All of these constrictors would be added to the Injurious Wildlife list of the Lacey Act. If this were to happen more than 1 million American citizens could be subject to felony prosecution under the Lacey Act. It is the job of OMB to weigh the purported benefits of the rule against the economic impacts. It is also their duty to assure the rule has been given due process under the Administrative Procedures Act, Information Quality Act and all pertinent Executive Orders. USARK has created a clear public record that FWS has failed at every level to make their case for this rule. According to emails obtained by USARK it appears that staff at FWS colluded with staff at the US Geological Survey (USGS) to manufacture “science” to support this rule making after the decision had already been made to pursue a Lacey Act listing. Further, FWS grossly underestimated the economic impact. USGS has justified their flawed “science” by saying they were not required to adhere to information quality standards for science used to support the rule because the rule did not meet the standard for a major rule making ($100 million). An economic assessment of the Modern Reptile Industry commissioned by USARK, and done by Georgetown Economic Services, has since debunked USGS claims by asserting that the rule could have impact in excess of $103 million. USARK believes the actions of FWS and USGS in regards to the Constrictor Rule are arbitrary, capricious and potentially unlawful.
